Fieldbus Foundation reports progress on several fronts

11 March, 2008

The Fieldbus Foundation is moving forward on the development of a specification that will standardise the interface of remote I/O into its open automation infrastructure. The High-Speed Ethernet Remote I/O (HSE-RIO) will define the structure for interfacing remote I/O over the HSE control backbone.

The development was one of several announcements made at the Foundation’s 2008 general assembly, held in Belgium recently. Others included:
º plans for demonstrations of the Foundation’s Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF) at several user sites around the world;
º support by the Foundation for the efforts of the EDDL Co-operation Team and the FDT Group to develop a single unified Field Device Integration (FDI) system that is compatible with both technologies and incorporates the best elements of both; and
º progress in the Foundation’s joint initiative with the Hart Communication Foundation and the Profibus Users’ Group (PNO) to develop a wireless technology for use in both process and manufacturing environments. The three organisations are developing a specification for a common interface to wireless gateways, based on the WirelessHart technology and the emerging ISA SP100.11a standard.
