Invertek will add 50 jobs in €2m expansion

26 February, 2008

The Welsh driver-maker has embarked on a €2m expansion programme, which will almost double the size of its UK head office in Welshpool. The expansion, due to be completed by October this year, will add 1,800m2 of offices for r&d, sales and marketing, and training activities. The company also expects to create 50 new jobs in manufacturing, design, research, sales and customer services.

Invertek says that sales of its Optidrive variable speed drives have risen by 32% over the past year and it expects further significant growth during 2008. Production capacity will rise to more than 100,000 drives this year, with the introduction of new manufacturing cells, and the implementation of new assembly techniques.

"The new facility is not an expansion of manufacturing space," explains operations director, Charles Haspel. "Our product design philosophy means that our latest range of Optidrive E2 drives are three times more efficient to manufacture than previous-generation products. Through a combination of process and product improvement, we have therefore been able to meet the phenomenal growth in global demand for our products without expanding our existing manufacturing facilities.

"This means we can concentrate these new facilities on r&d, training and marketing, ensuring that we continue to provide the innovation and added value that is required for our continued global success in this highly competitive market."

Invertek is starting to produce a new range of compact drives aimed at OEMs.
