A microdrive `designed for OEMs` is on the cards

14 June, 2007

The Finnish drives-maker Vacon is the latest manufacturer to enter the fiercely competitive microdrive market. Vacon’s twist is to say that its new Vacon 10 range is the first microdrive designed especially for OEM customers.

The compact drives, covering ratings from 0.25–5.5kW, allow OEMs to create specific applications using control cards called Application Interfaces (or APIs). They can either choose the cards from a standard set, or specify them to meet their particular needs. Other features include integrated EMC filters and intelligent navigation

"The Vacon 10 family is the first member of our new product range," says Vacon’s executive vice-president, Heikki Hiltunen. "It offers great flexibility in meeting customer control requirements, and excellent opportunities to find new business in the very competitive and rapidly growing microdrives market.

"The Vacon 10," he adds, "ideally supports our strategy: a wide product range, outstanding drives know-how, customer orientation, the latest technology and mass customisation."

Vacon says that the new microdrives will deliver fault-free operation and uninterrupted production. Typical applications are expected to include pumps and fans, materials-handling equipment, conveyors, and automatic doors and gates.

All materials used to produce the Vacon 10 drives and their packaging have been chosen with recycling in mind, and the drives are RoHS compliant.

Vacon now offers AC drives in the power range 0.25kW–5MW. Its sales last year amounted to €186.4m.
