Premium brand takes on low-cost bearings

INA FAG has introduced a new brand that it will use for a variety of its premium products and services. The X-life brand is intended to signify improvements in product design, performance and service life that far exceed standard values.

In part, the move is a response to the pricing pressures that INA FAG is facing from low-cost rivals. "X-life manifests our position as a premium supplier and will help us to reinforce our strong position in Europe and to find new markets and sectors," says Robert Schullan, executive vice-president of the industrial division at INA FAG`s parent, the Schaeffler Group.

Products carrying the X-life brand will include products drawn from FAG and INA`s existing portfolios, as well as new and enhanced ranges. In particular, the brand will be use for low-noise, low-maintenance and a high-load products. From the FAG side of the business, come spherical roller bearings, angular contact ball bearings and cylindrical roller bearings with cages, while INA is contributing needle roller bearings, linear guidance systems and spherical plain bearings.

New products that will carry the X-life label include:

.• a compact roller monorail guidance system for use in large, high-performance machining systems;

• a new generation of low-noise ball monorail guidance systems, capable of higher speeds and accelerations for dynamic traverse and positioning motion;

• single-row, angular-contact ball bearings with frictional moments reduced by up to 10%, resulting in a 30%-plus increase in the fatigue limiting load; and

• large spherical plain bearings with an improved coating, said to deliver a 50% boost to dynamic and static loadings, and a 25% longer sliding distance.
