Crompton is no longer Small

Tyco Electronics is changing the name of its small motors brand from Crompton Small Motors to Crompton Electric Motors. Tyco acquired the Doncaster-based business from Invensys in 2002.

"The name change reflects our business more accurately," explains Brian Holdsworth, the brand`s product team director. "The aim is to remove any of the ambiguity associated with the term `small motors`, and to support our drive into Europe, where the translation of `small` can be confusing."

Crompton Electric Motors has been increasing its market share in Europe, especially in Germany, over the past two years. It produces AC motors in diameters from 70-156mm and power ratings from 45W-2.2kW.

The company uses the Crompton name under licence from Brook Motors, which holds the trademark.
