Schneider buys Legrand to create LV leader

01 February, 2001

Schneider Electric is buying its compatriot, the low-voltage electrical group Legrand, to create what it claims will be the world`s largest LV supplier. The merged group, Schneider Legrand, will have 94,000 employees, and sales of €12.4bn (£10.4bn), split between North America (29%), France (20%), the rest of Europe (37%), and the rest of the world (14%).

The alliance is expected to generate synergies worth €210m (£175m) by 2003, and savings worth €120m (£100m) in three years. Schneider predicts that the combined expertise will result in new power and communications technologies such as systems that are integrated from central switchboards to the point of use through wire management systems.
