In Brief

International Rectifier has added three new models to its iMotion family of integrated power modules. The new devices, which integrate more than 20 separate components, are designed to simplify variable speed control circuits, especially for domestic appliance applications up to 750W.

National Instruments has launched a motion hardware driver development kit which allows engineers to create embedded motion systems on platforms such as Linux, VxWorks and RTX, as well as the more common Windows.

Allegro MicroSystems Europe has developed a three-phase brushless DC motor controller-driver chip for applications requiring accurate control of high-speed motors. The A9804 chip incorporates back-emf sensing, motor start-up and running algorithms, and offers direction and external speed controls.

Texas Instruments has introduced an analogue front-end for its Burr-Brown family of motor controls, which it claims is the first of its type. The chip integrates three 12-bit, 1 mega-sample/s analogue-to-digital converters including 12 differential input channels, and could be used for multi-axis positioning and robotics.
