IP66/4X drives offer Bluetooth option for safe remote commissioning

ABB Motion has added IP66 / UL Type 4X protected drives to its ACS580 general-purpose, ACH580 HVACR and ACQ580 water and wastewater families. The new drives have been designed to withstand extreme rain, heat, cold, salt spray, dust and humidity. They address a growing demand for high-performance drives capable of operating in harsh conditions without protective enclosures, thus helping to cut installation complexity, footprints and costs.
The drives offer the option of Bluetooth control panels for remote commissioning and monitoring, allowing personnel remain safely outside arc flash zones, for example.
“The introduction of these IP66 / UL Type 4X variants marks a significant step forward in making efficiency and productivity accessible across a much wider range of environments and industrial demands,” says ABB’s regional product market manager for drive products, Prachi Nayak. “These drives are built to perform where conditions are toughest.”
The ACS580 drives are aimed mainly at food and beverage, pharmaceutical and agricultural applications where washdown, chemical exposure and stringent hygiene standards are routine, in locations such as dairies, meat processing plants, bakeries and aquaculture installations. The ACQ580 variants offer high corrosion resistance for water and wastewater applications, such as pumps, clarifiers and dosing systems, where caustic chemicals and gases are used. The ACH580 drives provide the same level of protection to HVACR applications such as rooftop air-handlers, cooling towers, pump skids and supply and exhaust fans.
The optional Bluetooth control panels support connections, commissioning and monitoring via ABB’s Drivetune and Drive Composer platforms. They can be used to keep personnel outside arc flash zones during live work. The drives also offer optimised DC chokes, built-in C2 EMC filters, and two option slots for fieldbus adapters and additional I/Os, allowing drives to be tailored to specific applications.
