Integrated PLC/HMIs have two processors to boost performance

Idec’s combined HMI and PLC uses a single program for both functions

Idec has announced a range of integrated PLC/HMIs in which each of the main components has its own dedicated CPU, thus optimising scan times and performance. Native communications between the two sections of the FTxJ SmartAxis Touch controllers enhances speed further.

There is a choice of 4.3” (272 x 480 pixel, 16M colour) or 7” (480 x 800 pixel, 65,000 colour) multi-touch displays using a projected capacitive sensing technology. The water- and scratch-resistant displays have 500 cd/m² brightness and a 50,000-hour backlight life.

The devices combine a controller with 12, 14 or 22 on-board I/O, and are expandable via a pair of cartridge ports for discrete or 12-bit resolution analogue I/O.

There are two models: the FT1J offers 8 points of DC inputs (configurable as all discrete, or 6 discrete and 2 analogue, 0-10V DC or 4-20mA, 12-bit). The inputs can operate as high-speed counters up to 20kHz. For discrete outputs, a relay version provides four 2A relay outputs, while a transistor version provides four 0.5A transistor outputs and two 0-10V DC or 4-20mA analogue outputs.

If you need more I/O or a larger display, the FT2J version has 14 discrete inputs (5 of them configurable as high-speed counters), and 4 points of analogue inputs (configurable as 0-10V DC or 4-20mA). A relay version provides 8 relay outputs, while transistor versions provide 6 points sinking or 6 points sourcing (4 configurable as pulse outputs) and two 0-10V DC or 4-20mA analogue outputs.

The controller/HMIs are available with IP66 and IP67 protection for wash-down areas, and IP66F and IP67F for areas where oil may be present.

Idec’s WindOI-NV4 software offers functions such as PID loop control, PWM control, multilingual capabilities, security, trend charts, data logs and alarm logs. A single program file supports both the PLC and HMI functions.

Two USB-A ports support flash drives for data logging, recipes, and program transfer, while RS-232C and RS-422/485 ports support Modbus RTU and allow the PLCs to communicate with other devices. An Ethernet port provides access for remote maintenance and communications. Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet IP, EtherNet/IP, and MQTT protocols are supported.
