Industrialists team up with Nvidia to transform Sweden for the AI age

A group of leading Swedish businesses and organisations – including AstraZeneca, Ericsson, Saab, SEB and Wallenberg Investments – is joining forces with Nvidia to build a new AI infrastructure with the aim of transforming Swedish industry for the AI age. They plan to use Nvidia-accelerated computing, networking and software technologies – including its latest Grace Blackwell GB300 systems – to drive AI innovation in Sweden.

The background to the initiative is a rapidly growing need among Swedish companies for AI computing resources in a secure state-of-the-art infrastructure.

The group plans to establish a next-generation AI computing infrastructure that is both a production facility and a reference installation, thus unlocking new possibilities for adopting AI. They hope to establish AI competence across Swedish industry and to foster knowledge sharing.

The system that the consortium is building will be operated by a joint company to offer secure, sovereign computing access to the industrial partners. In a first phase, they will deploy two Nvidia DGX SuperPods to create Sweden’s largest enterprise AI supercomputer. It will run computing-heavy AI workloads to accelerate processes such as training domain-specific AI models, and performing large-scale inference, including reasoning AI.

To support this effort, Nvidia plans to establish its first AI technology centre in Sweden to advance world-class AI research with the industry partners. It will offer access to its experts, as well as training to upskill AI talents.

• AstraZeneca will use the new system to spearhead the next generation of AI-enabled drug discovery and development using methods such as foundation model training, multi-model inference and data processing.

• Ericsson will use its data science expertise to develop and deploy AI models aimed at improving performance and efficiency, and enhancing customer experience. By harnessing the power of AI, the company says it will enable new business models and use cases for its billions of end-users.

• Saab will deploy AI to accelerate the development of advanced defence capabilities, combining advanced AI applications with its products and platforms.

• The SEB bank will use AI to drive productivity enhancement, power new customer offerings and futureproof its operations. It says that securing access to critical infrastructure is a strategically important part of this ambition.
