GenAI device maintenance boosts first-time fix rates by up to 50%

ABB has launched what it claims is the first AI-powered digital tool for maintenance and troubleshooting of measurement devices at industrial sites. Using generative AI, cloud computing and augmented reality (AR), the Web application brings together data from multiple IT and operational technology sources, and provides a single access point for information retrieval, device diagnostics, and remote support in industrial operations.
The tool, called My Measurement Assistant+, is integrated with ABB’s Ability Genix Copilot – a GenAI platform developed by ABB in collaboration with Microsoft to help industrial companies to boost efficiency, productivity and sustainability by contextualising vast amounts of data.
ABB estimates that with rapid access to information and communication channels, the new tool can help to resolve most technical support issues within minutes, boosting first-time fix rates by up to 50%.
“My Measurement Assistant+ is now at the heart of ABB’s comprehensive digital measurement offering,” says ABB Measurement & Analytics’ global digital lead, David Lincoln. “It is a GenAI-powered solution that provides 24/7 support for measurement devices of industrial customers. It empowers frontline workers by offering the right information at the right time and the right place, reliably.”
“The collaboration between Microsoft and ABB demonstrates the positive impact GenAI can have on industries,” adds Sonja Meindl, enterprise commercial director at Microsoft Switzerland. “Through the Genix Copilot’s integration with Microsoft, My Measurement Assistant+ provides insights that transform the way maintenance and service is performed, empowering industrial customers to work smarter and more efficiently.”
The new tool allows easier, more efficient access to remote support for measurement devices. It integrates ABB’s AR-based Visual Remote Support, allowing users to make secure video calls to ABB experts to resolve issues remotely, reducing the need for site visits and increasing uptime by helping to solve issues quickly and efficiently.
The Genix Copilot integration supports specific role-based experiences. For example, maintenance managers can assess information from relevant documentation, error codes and spare part details, receiving clear and concise responses.
With an intuitive user interface and accessibility from any device, My Measurement Assistant+ empowers technicians and engineers to access troubleshooting guides and video tutorials in the field, allowing them to handle complex issues efficiently.
Further integration of digital tools such as ABB’s Dynamic QR codes, Condition Monitoring and Genix Datalyzer, make it easier for users to access actionable insights from one place. The Dynamic QR Code capabilities, for example, mean that maintenance engineers can point a camera at a device, scan its code, and immediately get access to a detailed health report as well as resources for the device. It can also be used for detailed root cause analysis, based on live device data.
