Foresight invests £7m into UK electric motor distributor, TEC

TEC claims to be the UK’s largest independent distributor of electric motors

The private equity firm Foresight Group is investing £7m into Spartan Motor Holdings, the parent company of TEC Electric Motors, which claims to be the largest independent distributor of electric motors in the UK.

“With Foresight’s investment, we’re enhancing our services and deepening our product range to help drive energy efficiencies and operational excellence for our customers,” says TEC CEO, Scott Edwards. “We’re excited for the next chapter of TEC’s journey.”

As part of Foresight’s investment, Duncan Cooper, who was managing director of the pump-maker Grundfos for more than 30 years, joins as chair. Jonathan Rhodes has been appointed as chief finance officer. He has acted in a similar role for other businesses backed by private equity.

TEC was founded in 2006 by Scott and Tina Edwards, and Gareth Richardson. The company distributes low-voltage electric motors, gearboxes and inverters to a wide range of industries. It operates from a 90,000ft2 (8,360m2) facility in Hartlebury, Worcestershire, with a satellite site in Sheffield.

It offers motors from 0.06kW to 630kW on same-day delivery, and has 2,316 variants of 7.5kW motors.

Lindsay Duebendorfer, Foresight Group’s investment director, describes TEC as “a long-standing, independent distributor in a specialised market. It has grown successfully and has built a well-deserved, strong reputation for technical expertise and reliability. We look forward to supporting the team in their next phase of growth.”
