Expandable industrial controller is based on Raspberry Pi module

Sfera Labs’ industrial server based on a Raspberry Pi module supports open, flexible industrial and IoT applications

Sfera Labs, the Italian designer and manufacturer of embedded and edge computing systems, has announced an expandable industrial controller based on the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4). The Strato Pi Max is a powerful industrial server module that can be customised and optimised for industrial and IoT applications.

Based on open technology and compatible with the toolsets, programming languages and development frameworks available for Raspberry Pi, Sfera says that the new module will allow designers to implement advanced control systems quicker and at a lower cost than would usually be possible using proprietary systems.

The DIN-rail-mounted module incorporates Wi-Fi and BLE wireless connections, dual Ethernet ports, dual SD, eMMC and/or SSD storage options and two USB ports. It supports up to four embedded expansion boards that extend its capabilities to include serial (RS-485/RS-232) and CAN bus interfaces, digital I/O, additional wireless connections and support for an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

The new module offers isolated RS-485 ports and USB ports with independent power control and fault detection, and complies with relevant standards for electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and sustainability. It will be optionally be available with a Secure Compute Module as its core, further shielding it for use in zero-trust environments.
