Ethernet switches are first to be awarded TSN certification

The industrial communications specialist Moxa says that it has received the world’s first TSN Component Certification from the Avnu Alliance, verifying the conformance and cross-vendor interoperability of its TSN-G5000 industrial Ethernet switches.
TSN (time-sensitive networking) switches provide interoperable, deterministic, end-to-end communications for critical applications, without the limitations of proprietary systems.
The Avnu Alliance was set up in 2009 to promote and facilitate the adoption of standards-based networking for reliable, time-sensitive applications. It now supports wired (Ethernet) and wireless (Wi-Fi and 5G) TSN technologies. As well as providing certification services, it offers tools to accelerate innovation and to foster user confidence in interoperable systems for real-time networking.
“The Component Certification Program is the first of its kind to certify TSN capabilities and serves as the industry platform for verifying conformance and cross-vendor interoperability of TSN components,” explains Avnu Alliance president, Dave Cavalcanti.
Avnu’s certification programme focuses on core TSN standards, including timing and synchronisation (802.1AS) and enhancements for scheduled traffic (802.1Qbv). It allows suppliers to verify the compliance of their components with the TSN standards, thus ensuring interoperability and integration with other systems.
The TSN-G5000 switches are suitable for applications such as factory automation, mass customisation and CNC machines. They can help to reduce production times and increase efficiency.
