Eaton acquires UK hazardous area technology producer

Eaton has acquired the UK-based Oxalis Group, which manufactures electrical products for the hazardous area, marine, and industrial communications markets. Details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Oxalis, whose headquarters are in Stratford-upon-Avon, employs around 40 people at two manufacturing sites in the UK. Its product portfolio includes flameproof motor starters, power distribution systems, terminal boxes and control panels. It also produces closed-circuit TV systems, while its Oxalis Communications business manufactures public address and alarm systems for harsh environments.

Oxalis Group was founded in 2009, originally providing portable lighting systems to the defence and aviation industries. It later expanded into CCTV / video surveillance and thermal imaging technology via the acquisition of VideoMarine, combined with its own research and development.

“The acquisition of Oxalis is in line with our long-term strategy to continue to offer innovative solutions,” says Eaton vice-chairman and chief operating officer of its electrical business, Thomas Gross. “The company’s growth potential, technology leadership, strong management team and complementary product portfolio make it a strategic fit within Eaton’s hazardous area communications solutions.”

“This transaction adds important hazardous area communications capabilities while expanding our closed-circuit camera station offerings,” adds Bill VanLandingham, president of Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds operation. “Adding Oxalis’ market-leading technology to the Eaton portfolio enables us to efficiently enhance and expand our onshore-compliant systems.”
