Cable distributor Batt enters administration with 334 jobs at risk

The Kent-based cables distributor, Batt Cables, has entered administration, potentially putting 334 jobs at risk. The company, founded in 1952, claims to be longest-established cables distributor in the UK.
Batt Cables and an associated company, Cricket Bidco, were placed in administration on 6 January by Ernst & Young, which says that Batt will be continue trading “for a short period” while a purchaser is sought. Some 70 members of staff at the Erith-based business were made redundant with immediate effect.
The administrators say that the company has “ongoing” financial issues as a result of the “challenging” market conditions and has not been able to secure necessary funding.
Batt Cables supplies electrical, data, control, and specialist cables via ten sites in the UK and seven in Europe. It also has operations in North and South America.
In 2023, Batt Cables was acquired by Chiltern Capital. At that stage, its revenues were said to be more than £200m.
