ABB invests $120m to expand US production, creating 250 jobs

ABB has announced plans to invest $120m in two US sites, expanding its capacity to produce low-voltage electrification products. The investment will enable the company to meet increasing demand from customers in sectors such as datacentres, commercial buildings and utilities.
ABB plans to double the size of its existing manufacturing site in Senatobia, Mississippi, adding 200 jobs, and to create 50 new jobs at a new advanced manufacturing facility in Selmer, Tennessee.
“Demand is increasing steadily for advanced electrification technologies, driven by growth in key sectors including datacentres and utilities,” says ABB CEO, Morten Wierod. “Today’s announcement will support our future growth in the US – ABB’s largest global market.
“Our new facilities in Selmer and Senatobia will keep our US customers at the cutting edge of the energy transition, and help them meet their performance, productivity and energy efficiency goals.”
ABB will invest $80m to build a 320,000ft2 (29,720m2) facility in Selmer, replacing an existing operation and increasing production capacity by more than 50%. The factory will manufacture electrical distribution equipment for large-scale industrial and technology-driven projects, such as datacentres and offices. ABB’s busway and bus plug products help businesses to simplify their power distribution systems, and allow them to expand or reconfigure without extensive rewiring. The new facility, due to open in Q4 2026, will increase the Selmer workforce by more than 25%.
ABB will also invest $40m to double the footprint of its Senatobia facility to meet increasing demand for advanced low-voltage circuit breakers. As well as supplying new projects, the bigger production capacity will also support growing demand from North American customers who are upgrading their ageing power infrastructures or expanding their operations. When it opens in Q2 2026, the 200 new jobs will increase the Senatobia workforce to more than 1,000.
Over the past three years, ABB has invested more than $500m in its US business, including a new $100m manufacturing facility and laboratory for industrial drives in New Berlin, Wisconsin, which opened in October 2024. A new $40m factory will open in Albuquerque, New Mexico in April 2025, to produce technologies for power grid hardening and resilience.
ABB’s US revenues were almost $9bn in 2024, accounting for around 27% of the ABB Group total. With some 17,000 employees across the US, ABB has nearly 40 manufacturing, distribution and operational facilities in 20 states, including nine R&D centres. Around 75-80% of the products that ABB sells in the US are manufactured locally. Since 2010, ABB has invested more than $14bn to expand its capacity and on acquisitions in the US.
