Compact VSD gets wireless comms option

25 October, 2016

Siemens has added a wireless commissioning and operating option to its Sinamics V20 range of variable-speed drives (VSD) which, it claims, are the smallest of their type on the market. A Web-server module mounted on the VSD allows users to access the drive from a laptop or mobile device via a secure WiFi connection.

The Sinamics V20 Smart Access Web-server module can be used for commissioning, setting or changing parameters, monitoring VSD status, running motors in jog mode, troubleshooting, and for backing up or restoring settings.

There is no need to install any extra data or applications, and the drive can be accessed via any Web browser running on a mobile device or laptop. The VSD can be accessed using familiar tools, even if it is installed in a difficult-to-access location. The module’s intuitive user interface allows fast and easy commissioning using a wizard.

Settings from one VSD can be sent to other mobile devices. By moving the Web-server module from one converter to another, several can be commissioned and operated using a mobile device as the operator panel. This allows fast, easy commissioning and pre-setting of parameters, which can be adjusted at any time.
