Current-limiting MCCBs react ‘up to three times faster’

24 October, 2016

Rockwell Automation has announced a new line of current-limiting, moulded-case circuit-breakers (MCCBs) which, it says, react to circuit overloads two to three times faster than standard breakers. The Allen-Bradley Bulletin 140G breakers protect against overloads, short-circuits and ground-fault conditions.

“While all moulded-case circuit breakers provide some level of energy limitation, our new current-limiting option is a high-performance circuit breaker,” says global product manager, Scott Lasko. “These current-limiting breakers have the ability to more quickly recognise and react to a short-circuit – helping protect equipment from damage and expensive downtime when there is a sudden increase in current.”

The UL-listed MCCBs can help achieve higher short-circuit ratings in control panels. In areas where there are high fault levels, the current-limiting breakers can reduce the energy let-through by more than 50%, resulting in less stress and potential damage to downstream components.

Rockwell says that its fast-acting MCCBs will minimise downtime
