2016 Drives & Controls Show is more than 70% full

11 August, 2015

The 2016 Drives & Controls Show – which takes place in Birmingham, UK, from 12–14 April, 2016 – is on track to have 50% more stands than at its previous outing in 2014. “With eight months still to go, we are over 70% full, even after increasing stand space by 40%,” says exhibition director, Doug Devlin.

“The exhibition has taken on a momentum of its own, with two significant factors,” he adds. “Existing exhibitors have been expanding the size of their stands, and we’ve seen an increase in the numbers of first-time exhibitors. The show has clearly established itself as the home of the UK automation industry.”

New exhibitors making their debuts at the 2016 event, include: the electrical connection specialist, Cembre; TEC Electric Motors; the embedded tools supplier, Hitex; the couplings, sprocket and conveyor chain manufacturer, Pennine Industrial Equipment; the MRO supplier, Howcraft Industrial Supplies; and CG Electric Motors, which sells motors made in India by the business formerly known as Crompton Greaves.

A first-timer from Germany is MS Motorservice International, which is the sales organisation for the worldwide aftermarket activities of Kolbenschmidt Pierburg.

Many exhibitors are returning to the NEC show after absences of several years. Examples include: Phoenix Contact; Mitsubishi Electric; the motor-maker, Brook Crompton; the bearings manufacturer, NSK; the installation and automation equipment supplier, Lütze; and the Italian motor manufacturer, Carpanelli.

Returning after a four-year absence is Parker Hannifin, which will be bringing a purpose-built exhibition truck to the show.

Exhibitors returning with larger stands than last time include Danfoss, Wittenstein and the automation and energy control supplier, forTop, which is doubling the size of its stand.

The 2016 Drives & Controls Show is on track to be much bigger than the 2014 event (above)

A new feature for the 2016 show will be a robotics demonstration area, with displays provided by ABB Robotics, Applied Automation, and Universal Robots/RA Rodriguez, among others.

Another ABB operation, its low-voltage business, will be exhibiting on the Gambica pavilion, which is expected to have twice as many booths as it did in 2014. Gambica member companies appearing on the pavilion will include Phoenix Contact, Pepperl+Fuchs and Vacon.

Another group stand returning to the show is the one organised by the European Power Transmission Distributors Association, EPTDA. Members exhibiting on its stand will include Acorn Industrial Services, Howcraft, MS Motorservice and Dunlop BTL (formerly Medway UK).

The 2016 Drives & Controls Show will be held at the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre alongside other industrial events including MACH, Plant & Asset Management, European Offshore & Energy, Fluid Power & Systems and Air-Tech.
