Megadyne buys fellow Italian belt-maker, Sampla

01 July, 2015

The Megadyne group is buying another Italian belt-maker, Sampla Belting, for an undisclosed sum. Megadyne says that the move will enhance its position as the world's leading industrial power transmission conveyor belt company.

Sampla, founded in 1962, manufactures customisable conveyor and power transmission belts with a product range that includes standard belts as well as belts designed for unique applications. Its headquarters are in Agrate Brianza and it has manufacturing plants in Italy and the US. It specialises in conveyor belts for applications in light industries, such as food processing, logistics and textiles.

Sampla will keep its name and continue to be operated as a separate business by the Depaoli family, which has run Sampla for more than 30 years. The aim is to combine the expertise of Sampla’s workforce with Megadyne’s manufacturing, logistics and engineering capabilities.

“This is a very important step in the implementation of our mission of strengthening our position as market-leaders by offering, among other things, more complete solutions,” says Megadyne CEO, Giorgio Tadolini. “The immediate benefits of this acquisition include a complete range of products perfectly matching our current offering and the availability of an important distribution network.”

One of Sampla's specialities is conveyor belts for food applications

The Megadyne group, established in 1957 has its headquarters in Turin. It develops, manufactures and distributes rubber and polyurethane power transmission belts, complete belt systems and complementary products. In 2014, the private equity fund, Astorg Partners, acquired a majority stake in Megadyne.
