Mobile HMI can make changes to out-of-view applications

Rockwell Automation has announced a mobile HMI (human-machine interface) that allows users to make real-time adjustments to out-of-view applications. The Allen‑Bradley MobileView tethered operator interface has a 10-inch colour display with a resistive touchscreen and is designed for uses such as setting up, maintaining and calibrating machines.

A hardwired emergency-stop button and a three-position enabling switch are built in to support applications that need local safety functions.

“Between making an adjustment on the terminal and viewing the results on the machine, fixed operator terminals can require a lot of back and forth for personnel, for certain applications,” explains senior Rockwell product manager, Matt Hansen. “The MobileView tethered operator interface puts the terminal in the operator’s hands to increase productivity and safety. Tasks are made more efficient and machines are set up faster.”

The HMI has an internal 2GB SD memory card for storing applications, and a USB 2.0 port for data transfer. Software-assignable functions are available as an option, with either a hardwired momentary illuminated pushbutton or three-position key switch. There are three cable lengths available from 5–15m.

The HMI complements Rockwell’s Allen-Bradley PanelView graphic terminals, and uses the same FactoryTalk View Machine Edition (ME) HMI software, allowing users to develop and re-use applications on both the MobileView and PanelView platforms.
