German pair ‘re-invents’ servodrive cable assemblies

08 June, 2015

The German cable manufacturer Lapp and the connector-maker Intercontec have joined forces to “re-invent” servodrive cable assemblies with a new range that, they say, will support all common drives. Lapp has set up an automated facility at its Stuttgart plant to produce the Ölflex Connect Servo assemblies, and this will be followed by similar facilities in Asia and North America to serve the global market.

Initially, the assemblies will offer Siemens connectors, and these will be followed later by seven other makes. The range will cover cable diameters from 1.5–10mm2 and plug sizes from M15–58. Users will be offered a choice of three performance classes.

Lapp is using a newly-developed automated process to remove the cable shielding and to spread it through 360 degrees to create an all-round contact that, it claims, results in measurably better electromagnetic shielding than previous techniques.

Aiming at a global market: Lapp’s servo cable assemblies

Lapp says that the new servo cable production process is a response to the “plug and produce” trend in manufacturing. It will allow users to choose the best assembly for any application.
