Fixed-mount imager checks for thermal problems and fires
Flir Systems has announced a fixed-mount temperature sensor that combines thermal and visible cameras in a small, affordable package. The AX8 sensor can be installed in tight spaces to perform continuous, automated monitoring of the temperatures of critical electrical and mechanical equipment. It can also be used to detect fires.
The sensor provides early detection of temperature-related issues to help prevent unplanned outages, service interruptions and equipment failures. It has a built-in Web interface, and analysis and alarm functions that send alerts automatically when the sensor detects elevated temperatures. It avoids the need for periodic manual scans.
“With the AX8, Flir is continuing to find new and innovative uses for its increasingly more affordable thermal imaging technologies,” says the company’s president and CEO, Andy Teich. He adds that the sensor is “another example of how our new Lepton core’s revolutionary price, size, and low power consumption is creating a new product category and corresponding applications.”
The new sensor streams thermal, visual, and MSX video signals in standard MJPEG, MPEG, H.264 formats. The data can be streamed via standard Ethernet/IP and Modbus TCP interfaces.
The IP67-protected device measures 54 x 25 x 95mm. The thermal imager has 4,800 active temperature points per image.
