Motor-Driven Systems joins D&C Show seminar line-up
A talk describing the technology behind Drayson Racing Technologies’ world-record-breaking electric sportscar is part of a wide-ranging programme of free presentations, seminars and discussion forums that will take place across all three days of next month’s Drives & Controls Show at the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre.
Drayson Racing Technologies’ commercial project manager, Oliver Jones, will be describing the technologies used in the company’s B12/69 EV in a talk in the show’s seminar theatre at 2.30pm on Tuesday, 8 April.
Other topics that be covered in the seminar sessions will range from the latest technologies, to developments in standards and legislation that affect the automation and motion engineering sectors.
On Wednesday – the middle day of the show – the seminar session will be devoted to the Motor-Driven Systems travelling roadshow that has been promoting efficiency issues in a series of seminars around the country over the past year. The speakers at the Birmingham event will include:
• Martin Adams, from the Department of Energy and Climate Change, who will be discussing the new Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme;
• Toby Colquhoun, from the market analyst IHS, who will present the results of a recent study of the global market for LV motors;
• Steve Brambley from Gambica, who will argue that the cost of failing to invest in efficient technologies is higher energy bills; and
• Richard Baker, from Siemens Financial Services, who will explain an energy efficiency funding scheme that the company is running with the Carbon Trust, that offsets payments against the energy savings.
Other seminar presentations will cover a variety of topics including: functional safety standards; cutting the costs of running pumping systems; a comparison of harmonic compensation technologies; how to optimise belt drives to cut their energy use; implications of the ISO 50001 standard on energy management systems; applying industrial Ethernet; and new requirements for the efficiency of motor-driven systems.
On 10 April, there will be an hour-long panel discussion of trends in automation in the UK, led by Steve Brambley.
