PLC can access plant data without gateways

13 December, 2012

Eaton used recent SPS/IPC/Drives show in Germany to launch a compact PLC that offers a SmartWire-DT master an option, allowing it to access digital and analogue data directly, from the control circuit through to circuit-breakers, without needing gateways or I/O. The XC152 PLC can thus act as an alternative to a combined HMI/PC, using an external HMI which is easy to upgrade.

The compact (100 x 155 x 44mm) PLC is based on the Windows CE 5 operating system and a 32-bit 400MHz RISC processor. As well as 64Mb of internal memory, an SD slot is provided for external storage. The PLC also incorporates a run/stop switch, an Ethernet interface and a USB host. It is available with either a CANopen (master/slave) or Profibus (DP/MPI master) interface, and with RS-232 and/or RS-485 ports.

The CoDeSys-based PLC also offers Web visualisation and remote server functions.
