Spring terminals `slash contactor wiring time`

Telemecanique claims that the spring-clamp terminals used on a new range of compact contactors and protection devices can cut wiring time by up to 40% compared to standard screw connections. The TeSys devices, rated at up to 15kW, are just 45mm wide, including normally-open and normally-closed auxiliary contacts.

The spring-clamp terminals with integral backstops are claimed to save space and to guarantee connection reliability, unlike screw-clamp terminals. They are said to be immune to the effects of normal shock and vibration.

The TeSys range includes contactors rated at up to 38A AC with low-consumption coils. These can be operated directly from PLCs and other electronic control products. Prices are comparable to an AC contactor and an interface relay. For contactors up to 15kW, DC coil consumption is 2.4W. This allows smaller power supplies to be used and reduces panel heating.

A complementary starter connection system called Quickfit allows up to eight motor starters to be assembled on a baseplate without tools. Power and control connections are made automatically. Bus couplers are available for popular networking systems.
