Mix-and-match safety modules clip together

Fortress Interlocks has developed a new approach to controlling access to hazardous machinery and equipment, using modules that clip together to provide combinations of electrical and mechanical safety devices. For example, the eGard system will allow electrical safety gate switch interlocks, mechanical trapped key interlocks, and simple machine controls, to be integrated into a single compact assembly.

Available modules include mechanical and electrical locks, safety switches, emergency stops, buttons, indicators, and actuators for hinged or sliding doors.

Fortress says that there are more than 4,000 billion possible combinations of the modules, which are linked by a patented mechanical and electrical connection. The internal network configures itself automatically, making the system easy to install and reconfigure, while all connections are made from one end, minimising the need for wiring.

The eGard system can be linked to PLCs and mimic panels, or used on AS-i networks. It is engineered for Category 4 applications and allows safe and standard I/O to be used together. The modules have corrosion-resistant polymer bodies and stainless wear parts.
