Gambica issues guidance on G5/4 harmonics recommendation

Gambica has published a guide to the recently published electricity industry Recommendation G5/4, which is designed to ensure that harmonics on the mains supply do not reach a level at which they could cause problems for other electricity users.

The complex - and controversial - recommendation was drawn up because the mushrooming use of non-linear power supplies in equipment ranging from televisions to industrial drives, is increasing harmonic levels on power supplies.

For equipment manufacturers to comply with G 5/4, they must identify the harmonic currents generated by their equipment under defined conditions. Users of the equipment must ensure the compatibility of their networks and comply with the appropriate requirements.

Gambica`s 24-page document, Managing Harmonics, contains guidance interpreting and applying the G5/4 recommendations to variable speed drives.

The £20 booklet is available from Gambica. Details on (44) 020 7793 3050.
