Waterside`s Oyster acquisition is a pearl

Waterside Solutions, the HMI and industrial software specialist, has bought Oyster Terminals from the US group Itronix which acquired it last year along with the ruggedised computers supplier formerly known as Husky Computers.

Oyster, which makes hand-held terminals, has had a hectic few years. It was formed in 1973 and operated as a private company until 1996 when its was bought by WPI which merged it with another subsidiary to form WPI Oyster Termiflex. In 1998, it was moved to Coventry where it was merged with WPI Husky before being sold to Itronix last year.

"The last few years have been confusing for our customers with a series of sales, mergers and moves," says Trevor Aitken, who has been with the company since 1989. He describes the latest acquisition as "an exciting development", adding that "Waterside has the design and engineering capabilities that can make a substantial contribution to our product development".

Waterside MD Peter Evans says that his company (which grew out of AFE) is committed to Oyster`s future. "It is an excellent company and we intend to support it fully," he says, pointing out that the hand-held terminals complement Waterside`s own panel-mount HMIs and plant management software products.
