Motor-maker VEM sets up shop in the UK

German motor-maker VEM has set up a UK subsidiary in Stirchley, near Birmingham, to target large OEMs and project business. Elektrotorc - formerly MPTC Elektrotechnik - which has represented VEM in the UK since 1987, will continue as a strategic partner, distributing VEM products and supplying OEM customers.

"VEM wants to grow its share of the UK market, both through Elektrotorc and directly through this new sales initiative," explains Frank Taylor, who has been appointed managing director of the new operation. Keith Wayman will be the company`s area sales manager.

VEM produces low and high voltage motors at three factories in Germany. As well as standard motors up to 500kW, it also makes special-purpose machines such as slipring, brake, smoke extraction, crane, marine auxiliary, railway traction and hazardous area motors.
