Safety controller is simple to program
Published:  19 December, 2010

Schmersal has announced a compact safety controller which can replace up to six safety-monitoring modules and can be configured without programming knowledge or manufacturer-specific parameter settings. The Protect Select system (shown below) comes with 12 preconfigured programs, which users choose to suit their applications. Preconfigured versions will be available for OEMs, avoiding the need for them to set parameters.

The controller includes 18 digital and two analogue safe inputs, which can be allocated to six safe outputs using a similar format to a wiring diagram. In addition to the 52.5mm-wide basic controller, there is an optional wireless version that uses safe radio communications. A built-in display is used to choose programs and to provide diagnostic messages.
