Drives Show attracts a flurry of late bookings

03 May, 2010

With a month to go before the Drives & Controls Show in Birmingham, exhibitors are still signing up from as far afield as Asia. For example, the Indian motor manufacturer Rotomag will be exhibiting items from its portfolio of DC motors, gearmotors and speed reducers, while there have been three late signings from Italy – the motor producer Motive, the screwjack specialist Unimec, and power transmission manufacturer Chiaravalli.

“The high level of interest from overseas exhibitors – including a delegation from China – demonstrates the international status that the show now has,” says the exhibition’s sales director, Doug Devlin. “The Drives & Controls Show is clearly the most important forum for suppliers to reach automation and motion engineering customers in the UK.”

Several UK-based motor specialists have been added to the line-up in recent weeks including STS Motors from Cradley Heath, which boasts a history going back more than a century and brings together brands such as BKB, EPE and Tuscan. Other new exhibitors who will be showing motor technologies include Bodine Electric, KB Electronics, and EBM Papst.

A first-time exhibitor at the show will be Dewsbury-based Pumps & Gearboxes, which is part of the Richard Alan Group, and is the UK distributor for gearboxes from the Turkish manufacturer, Yilmaz. Another gearbox specialist, Brevini, will be returning to the show for the first time in several years.

Other recent signings include two UK-based companies with German parents – the hazardous areas specialist Bartec, and the controls and automation supplier, Vipa. And the major German automation player Beckhoff will be making its first UK appearance since establishing a UK subsidiary recently.

New arrivals in the vital area of software and computing include the German computer simulation specialist CST, and a new Tawworth-based company called SCADA Ltd.

There have also been several recent additions to the programme of free seminars being held in two theatres at the show. For example, Jez Palmer from Schneider Electric will be talking about the use of wireless communications technologies in industrial control applications, while a speaker from Rockwell Automation will be presenting a paper on the use of Ethernet in manufacturing. Professor Andrew Plummer, director of the Centre for Power Transmission and Motion Control at the University of Bath, will be looking at recent developments in fluid power research.

More details about the exhibitors at Drives & Controls and the seminar programme can be found on the show Web site,
where you can pre-register as a visitor or to sign up for a seminar session. The show kicks off at 9.30am on 8 June and runs for three days.
