February News in Brief

01 February, 2008

º  National Instruments has announced PCI and PXI Profibus interfaces that will allow NI’s LabView software to be integrated into Profibus networks. The interfaces, which can function as master or slave devices, include LabView drivers with Express VIs – configuration-based blocks that simplify communications between LabView and the Profibus network.

º  The CC-Link Partner Association (CLPA) is offering to support UK OEMs operating in Asia by helping them to integrate CC-Link technologies into their systems and providing marketing support via CLPA branches in Asia. CC-Link is the dominant industrial networking technology in Asia with an installed base of more than four million nodes. CLPA says that UK OEMs` lack of familiarity with CC-Link could be costing them contracts in Asia.

º  The Scunthorpe-based maintenance specialist CP Automation has introduced a technique for servicing and repairing DC drives linked to permanent magnet motors that avoids the need to reset serviced drives in-house. Instead of using a "keeper" to substitute for the armature during servicing, the company demagnetises the motor before repair and remagnetises it afterwards to the correct settings.
