Single-axis controller can supervise whole machine

31 August, 2007

Siemens has announced a single-axis motion controller with built-in PLC and drive functions that can automate a complete single-axis machine such as a winder, cross-cutter or feeder. The Simotion D410 can also be used as part of a modular, multi-axis system, receiving a guide value from a higher-level controller and synchronising its axis to this value.

The controller (above) supports either servo controls for high dynamics, or vector control for maximum torque accuracy. It is available in versions for Profibus or Profinet networks, and can support up to four fast cam outputs or three probes using onboard I/O. The controller is designed to be plugged into Siemens’ Blocksize power modules which combine the motor power supply and feed functions in one device.

The modular design allows machine modules to be tested individually, and added or removed during live operation.
