Allied Motion buys Premotec for €3.75m

01 July, 2004

The US motion controls supplier Allied Motion Technologies, is buying the Dutch motor-maker, Precision Motor Technology - Premotec - for €3.75m in cash and shares. Premotec, which has been developing and manufacturing small precision motors for more than 40 years, was known as Philips Mechatronics until October 1997, when it became independent.

The takeover is due to be completed during the third quarter of this year. According to Allied Motion`s president Richard Warzala, Premotec`s products "complement those of Allied Motion, and its business is very well aligned with our existing businesses". The acquisition "will also provide new European market opportunities for Allied," he adds.

Premotec offers four different motor technologies - brushless DC, coreless DC, iron-core DC, and permanent magnet stepper and synchronous motors. It also supplies reduction gearboxes for the motors. Some manufacturing is carried out at its Dordrecht site in the Netherlands, and some at a contract manufacturing plant in Eastern Europe.

Premotec`s sales last year were worth around $10m, and its sales and profits have been growing over the past year. It is represented in the UK by McLennan Servo Supplies of Camberley.
