Adept takes control at MetaControls

01 August, 2002

Flexible automation supplier Adept Technology is taking a controlling interest in MetaControls Technologies, a North Carolina manufacturer of compact motion controls and machine vision cameras that are designed to be networked together using the Firewire high-speed serial bus. The MetaControls products will plug directly into Adept`s SmartController range of intelligent motion control and vision products, which are also based on FireWire.

The MetaControls equipment can also plug into PCs for simple applications, eliminating motion control boards and a significant amount of cabling.

According to Adept chairman and chief executive Brian Carlisle, the acquisition will provide low-cost, low-power controllers and cameras that will help it to address the OEM market and, in particular, "the extremely cost-competitive, but rapidly growing, motion control market in China".
